This stand-off scale plane is a 1931 Gee Bee, Model Y designed by Henry Haffke (Mr. "Gee Bee"). It was built for Richard by Bob Patterson. This 58 inch wing span craft is a model of the open cockpit predecessor to the famous R-1 and R-2. The Model Y was not intended to be a racer but it won more competitions than the later Gee Bees. Another photo of this bird has been included since she took so much effort to build and turned out so beautifully.

On the EWMA Officers' cover page, Richard's beautiful 60 inch wing span Advance 40 is pictured. It was his first low wing plane and powered by a Saito .56 Golden Knight. She even has an aero gyro, which was a first in our flying club for a fixed wing airplane.

A smaller electric plane Richard built from plans can also be seen on the EWMA Splash-In page. Currently, Richard is flying electric planes most of the time.
