Extremely small model airplanes are now possible. This has been a dream of many for a long time. Finally, with the miniaturization of parts and batteries now available, the dream is a reality. This is Sam Talley's micro plane. It uses a DWE RFFS-100 receiver, magnetic actuators with a Gary Hutchinson magnet housing, a KP-00 motor, and a U-80 prop. He has even flown it outside on calm days. Sam rebuilt this Thistle from foam "paper" plates. It weights 1.1 oz. The one it replaced was made from a half-thickness of pink fanfold foam. The current one weighs 1/10 oz. more, but flies better. Go figure. |
