EWMA Polar Bear Fly, 2006
Cooks, l. to r.: Gene Kerr, James Shacklet, James Fisher, Ellen Rust, and Greg Bridwell.
The Eight Annual Polar Bear Fly was held on New Year’s Eve, a day early. New Year's Day fell on a Sunday so the decision was made to hold Polar Bear Day 2006 on Saturday. As was the case last year, the Park Board approved the date for electric planes only. Club members got to fly on a weekend who normally don’t get that chance.

There was a tremendous crowd. Vehicles were doubled parked on the grass (a first). The chili and desserts were outstanding but the weather was terrible. Even though the wind cooperated by staying calm for the most part, the temperature was nearly unbearable: 55 degrees and sunny. This is supposed to be Polar Bear Day--a chance to show your manhood, a testament to the human spirit. How frustrating! Well, there’s next year.

Chili awards went to Greg Bridwell for Best Larapin' Chili, James Fisher for Best "Fish" Chili, Gene Kerr for Best Venison Chili, and Ellen Rust for Best Beanless Chili. The Best Soup Award went to James Shacklett.

Wonderful desserts were provided by Lydia Bradford, Sandy Dorris, Mary Alice Fanning, Alice Johnson, and Louise Kerr. They were quickly gobbled up and certainly added to the festivities.
