No badges of courage were passed out at the Sixth Annual EWMA Polar Bear Fly. As Lew Wallace had predicted after hearing the forecast, it wasn't very Polar -- not a challenge. The temperature reached 60 degrees with periodic sun. Heaters were set up merely out of the club president's compulsion. This was the second warmest Polar Bear Fly the club has experienced. What a disappointment! On the positive side, the weather brought out those who probably wouldn't have ventured out otherwise. There were cars everywhere, lots of EWMA families, and a multitude of visiting spectators. A Channel 4 TV crew was even at the scene preparing a feature on this special event. As a testament to the success of this year's fly-in, the three big pots of chili were scarfed up along with two recipes of cornbread and various delicious desserts. Early arrivals were treated to coffee, hot chocolate, ham and biscuits, and donuts. It was a wonderful day to be a member of EWMA! |
