The Fourth Annual EWMA Polar Bear Fly didn’t have the challenge of last year’s snow but the temperature wasn’t a disappointment. It was 17 degrees when the first members arrived at the field to get things set up. The high for the day was 32 degrees, yet it was the largest New Year’s Day club gathering to date. As you can see in this picture, a 45,000 BTU heater was positioned on the concrete pad to help keep frostbite to a minimum. The large contingent of spectators was amazed at all that was taking place. |

Perhaps it was the hint that Tommy Clayton’s famous chili might be a reward for more than thirty-five members’ lack of good common sense. The hot chocolate complete with miniature marshmallows also went fast. Donuts were washed down by plenty of fresh coffee. There was even a pie, a cake, and some cookies which members brought. The cold sure made for an hearty appetite. You can compare this event to the First Annual, Second Annual, Third Annual, Fourth Annual, Fifth Annual, Sixth Annual, Seventh Annual, Eighth Annual, and Nineth Annual Polar Bear Fly. |
