The First Annual EWMA Polar Bear Fly was held on New Year's Day, 1999. It was unbelievable! When first members arrived, the temperature was 21 degrees with a wind chill of 3. Engines were hard to start and vibrated badly, batteries lost power quickly, and fingers yelled frostbite.

The seven members who flew had a closeness not experienced before at the field -- gathering around a propane heater. They'll never forget the experience with their beautifully embroidered complimentary virtual long-johns. This happening is something survivors will always talk about.

You can compare this event to the Second Annual, Third Annual, Fourth Annual, Fifth Annual, Sixth Annual. Seventh Annual, Eighth Annual, and Nineth Annual Polar Bear Fly.
